Junior Language Challenge
On September 22nd Lidget Green hosted the North of England area final of the Junior Language Challenge. There were children from all over Yorkshire and Lincolnshire taking part in it along with 6 pupils from Lidget Green, Zain, Abdullah, Muskaan, Matten, Ayesha and Tulsi.
The children had already proved themselves in Greek and now faced the challenge of competing against each other in Korean for 3 places in the Final in London.
They played in two heats and the top 12 then competed against each other for the final places. The atmosphere was very tense as we watched Abdullah and Muskaan’s names move up and down on the leader board.
In the final round, all Abdullah’s hard work paid off and he finished in the top 3 qualifying for a place in the Final in London.
Congratualtions to all those who competed, you have all done incredibly well to learn two languages, Greek and Korean in such a short space of time.
And a special well done and Bahati njema! (That’s good luck in Swahili) to the 3 finalists.
So Abdullah let’s see if you can win that trip to Africa, and even if you don’t win that you should feel incredibly proud that you are amongst the top 30 junior linguists in the country. Maybe we should get Mr Lad to give you some extra tuition if he can still remember any Swahili from when he was a child.
