Parking on Birks Fold and increasing the size of the school

Published by mrpope under Uncategorized

Parking on Birks Fold is still a concern although at the moment it is made worse by contractors parking on the road and parents and visitors parking illegally on yellow lines.   Our Chair of Governors, Councillor Paul Flowers has asked the council to review the playground provision and parking on Birks Fold at the same time as they consider increasing the size of the school from September 2009.  We have asked the council to provide new classrooms to take the extra children, increase the playground area and create an all weather play area and new parking bays with a turning circle for parents.  At the moment no funding has been allocated to this project as it is still in the consultation stage.

Children’s Centre

Published by mrpope under Uncategorized

You will be pleased to know that the Children’s Centre is nearing completion with the contractors only on site for another 5 to 6 weeks.  Most of the internal work has now been completed which only leaves work to the front of the school to finish. This includes building the new entrance area and putting in new steps and pathway leading up to Birks Fold.  We will be having an open day so parents and people living and working in the area can look around the school and centre.

Parent’s Evening Tuesday 4th and Thursday 6th March

Published by mrpope under Uncategorized

As the school has been closed parents have been unable to return parent’s evening appointment forms so we have cancelled the meetings for this week and instead they will be held Tuesday and Thursday next week.  If you have not returned the appointment form please return it as soon as possible.  For those who have returned the form the times will remain the same unless you inform school that you wish to change it.  Please contact school if you require another form.

Closure of the school because of a gas leak

Published by mrpope under Uncategorized

First of all a big apology for having to close the school because of a gas leak which we were told would be repaired in two days.  As a result we had no heating in school and we were unable to provide school meals.  Without heating the school would have been extremely cold for children and staff.

While we contacted Education Bradford immediately to see if temporary electric heaters could be put into classrooms they would not allow this as it would overload the electric circuits.  Matters were made worse because the gas pipe was so badly corroded the whole of the pipe needed replacing and this added an extra four days to the repair.  Luckily the gas contractors agreed to work over the weekend to ensure the children could return to school as soon as possible.

The workmen will be working all weekend but school will still be closed for the essential repairs. We have got temporary heating for the Year 5 and 6 classrooms, so please come to school on Monday at 9.00 a.m. Hopefully we will be able to open the rest of the school soon.

More news as soon as we know.
