Jamies Farm
For the last two years pupils' at Lidget Green have accessed Jamie’s Farm which offers farm-based residentials and day visit programmes for young people. Their evidence-based, therapeutic programme provides a catalyst for lasting change with our impact revealing children leave the farm better equipped to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Jamie's Farm approach;
Purposeful work
A sense of purpose is critical in order for children to thrive. The programme instils this through real, meaningful jobs with tangible outcomes, offering children risk, challenge, autonomy and a sense of contribution.
A sense of belonging
A strong culture of empathy and connection celebrates children for who they are. This creates a supportive community where participants feel accepted and valued. Group activities encourage teamwork and mutual support.
Space for reflection
Space to reflect is provided through calm, technology-free spaces. At the farm, structured, therapeutic conversations take place, complemented by nurturing interactions with animals and the natural environment.
Follow up support
We continue to support children and their school staff through our follow up programme. We provide encouragement from afar and visit them in school to help bring what they’ve learnt on the farm back to their daily lives.
Our vision at the farm:
All children are empowered to thrive emotionally, socially and academically, both now and in their future.
At Jamie’s Farm we believe in the innate potential and good in every young person, no matter their background or life experiences.
A visit to Jamie’s Farm brings the opportunity to perhaps experience a different environment and learn new skills. Jamie’s Farm like to call it a ‘lifeswap’ for the day; with that, the young people have the chance to see how changing some factors can impact on how they feel and act.
Specifically, the programme focuses on improving behaviour, engagement, wellbeing and essential life-skills. The programme offers a unique, preventative solution to empower young people to change course.
