Bringing the past to life!
History teaching at LGPS focuses on enabling children to think as historians.
We aim to:
In Reception, the children enjoyed exploring toys through time. They explored artefacts and sorted them based on what materials they were made from or whether they were new or old toys.
In Year 1, the children have been enjoying exploring artefacts as part of their ‘Great Fire of London’ topic. The children discussed, explored and described the artefacts. They even wrote about them in their English work!
In Year 2, the children have been enjoying exploring Medieval artefacts as part of their ‘Castles and Knights’ topic. The children explored the artefacts and made predictions about what they were and what they were used for. They then created a Medieval Museum to showcase these artefacts. The children from all three classes visited the museum and completed a scavenger hunt, which they loved!
In Year 5, the children have been enjoying exploring Ancient Greek artefacts. The children handled the artefacts, and asked questions about the physical characteristics, design and construction, importance and function of the objects. They then predicted what the artefacts were, and what they might have been used for. The children have also sketched various artefacts in their sketchbooks.
